Wellness at The Well
As part of OBAR Young Professionals Network relaunch this year, we developed series of events to give our members and affiliates the option to participate in free, casual events, socials or educational opportunities as we gauge the interests of our group.
The latest event in our 'mini' meet up series was a wellness focused event which entailed a yoga class followed by two health and wellness speakers. Lori Wilson, life-coach and health and wellness extraordinaire, gave us the building blocks to handle stressful situations and manage anxiety. As well as, challenging us to look into our own well-being and expectations. The Outer Banks Wellness Center brought in a nutritionist to dive into the complexity our diets have on our well-being and answer our food related questions.
The benefits from our day of Wellness at The Well have trickled into my daily routine. Lori discussed the underlying driver of anxiety - fear. She went on to discuss how identifying that fear in the moment can give us the opportunity to reframe the situation by using simple points of gratitude. This technique will allow us to move forward with a positive mindset to handle any situation.
Being surrounded by my peers, discussing our careers and anxieties, lead me to feel supported and capable to handling new challenges and new goals that I routinely set for myself. Trying new methods to handle stress and anxiety has given me a strategy to move forward and push myself into the next chapter of my personal and professional development.
